Izip protour10/4/2023 If you drive, think back to how fast 65mph felt the first time you ever drove on the highway, compared to how mundane, or perhaps even slow it feels with some experience under your belt. There's also the element of rider experience that's worth considering. The extra speed just isn't something I'll be able to take advantage of everywhere I ride. That said, there's a lengthy stretch of road on a 30 mile route I travel regularly where I'm looking forward to being able to ride faster, when Class 3 ebikes become legal in my area in a few months. I ride a bike with a rigid frame and 700c tires, and there are a lot of questionably maintained roads in my area where I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable riding faster than that. I've found that, for the majority of situations, 20mph is perfectly fine for me. Any insight or advice you all have to throw at me will be greatly appreciated! If the general concensus comes back that most people are satisfied with their 20mph power cut-off ebikes, or that most of you with the ability to go faster rarely find themselves exceeding 20mph, I will pull the trigger when they come back in stock. There are other options I'm looking at around the $1500 range that will get me more power, but honestly I really like the look of the Rad City bike and it seems fairly solid. I'm also curious as to how well a Rad climbs hills specifically. So I guess what I hope to hear is whether any of you have bought something like a Rad as their first ebike and were quickly left wanting more power or speed. or on the fairly hilly, Pennsylvania roads. I'll be on a wide flat bike path that hardly sees any traffic but gives me access to most parts of town and the next town over. But while I will mostly be using it to commute to work/run errands in town, there are no such bike lanes and virtually no bicycle commuters. I am sure 20mph on a shared bike lane or around other bike/pedestrian traffic is plenty, or even too fast to be going. I asked my local bike shop if they had any to test drive and while they do sell several different class 2 ebikes, there are none in shop available to test ride. Videos only kind of work because the limited field of view can create an exaggerated sense of speed. It's been about a decade since I've done any biking though I'm sure I've gone 20mph downhill before, but I've never had a speedometer attached. I'm conflicted and it's keeping me from making a final decision on my first ebike Will I be satisfied with a 20mph power cut-off? The first part of deciding that is knowing just how fast 20mph feels and I honestly don't have much of an idea.
